Do you enjoy fragrance products? But have you been led to believe that it is harmful to your skin? You're not by yourself
The fragrance has gained an awful track record in the skincare industry in recent years. However, describing fragrance in skincare as awful is a bit harsh. We decided it was time to dispel some common misconceptions about fragrance and skincare.
FACT 1: THE majority of people ARE IRRITABLE & REACTING TO FRAGRANCES
Fragrance sensitivity affects approximately 10% of people. Thus, you must avoid it at all cost if you have a known allergy or are sensitive to fragrance. However, for the other 90%, using and enjoying skincare products that contain fragrance is perfectly acceptable.
FACT 2: FRAGRANCE DOES NOT ADD ANY VALUE TO SKINCARE.
The base formula smells like crayons without any fragrance. Your skincare routine should not be a painful experience. To neutralize any undesirable odors from the basic product, a masking fragrance (which you may not even be able to smell in some circumstances) is frequently required. A sensory experience with skincare is just as valuable as a functional experience.
FACT 3: ALL FRAGRANCES CAUSE SENSITIVITY.
Just like with any other product in cosmetics, the dose determines the poison, which in this case is sensitivity. Fragrance molecules, when used in authorized quantities, cause no sensitivity and improve the skincare experience. The type of fragrance utilized (natural, synthetic, non-allergenic, non-alcoholic, etc.) also affects the overall irritating properties of that fragrance molecule.
With that stated, it's critical to consider your own unique fragrance experience before deciding to go fragrance-free or use fragrance according to popular opinion. Because what is good for our skin is always the best option!
